Screening of Two Films to Celebrate June Leaf, Robert Frank and Bobby MacMillan
July 6th, 2025 - 2 screenings - 2pm and 6pm
Admission by donation
Join us for a special screening of ‘Another Light on the Road’ a film portrait of Robert Frank and June Leaf and their creative life together in Mabou, Nova Scotia.
In 2021, 92-year-old artist June Leaf invited friends and neighbours from around Mabou to come
sit in her kitchen and remember her late husband, the photographer and filmmaker Robert
Frank. Over the course of this informal wake, we learn the extent to which the couple’s artwork
was fuelled by their adopted home of 50 years, the ways their presence as artists inspired the
community around them, and most importantly how storytelling helps June to process her grief
and continue on her own artistic journey.
Directed by Kathryn Whalen and John Parlante
Runtime: 78 minutes
Also showing, a rarely seen film by legendary photographer and filmmaker Robert Frank,
‘Paper Route’.
In Paper Route (2002), legendary photographer Robert Frank captures the quiet dignity of rural
life through the eyes of newspaper carrier Bobby MacMillan in Mabou, Nova Scotia.
Riding shotgun on Bobby’s early-morning delivery route, Frank films a vanishing ritual-
community, connection, and routine, in soft, pre-dawn light. It’s not just a documentary; its a
meditation on memory, aging, and the rhythms that shape us.
