land remembers us

ICCA is thrilled to announce our final exhibition of the 2026 season, land remembers us, by artist Julie Forgues.

The exhibition opens Sunday, November 8th and runs until Sunday, December 13th.

The artist talk will be held on Sunday, November 8th at 1:00 PM. An opening reception will follow from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM.

Through photography, Forgues explores the spaces that exist between what was and what is yet to become. Her work focuses on transitional landscapes: sites in a state of transformation where nature and culture intersect, and where a space has not yet fully become a place, a home, or something defined.

Forgues is drawn to these “in-between” sites as places in their own right: neither entirely natural nor entirely cultural, but existing in a latent state of possibility. Through the photographic image, she makes these often-overlooked landscapes and processes of transformation visible, inviting us to consider how we understand space, place, nature, and the environments we inhabit.

Julie Forgues holds an MFA in Studio Arts (Photography) from Concordia University and a BAV from Université de Moncton. She is the recipient of the Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Program in Scotland (2024) and has participated in the Swatch Art Peace Hotel artist residency in Shanghai (2017–2018), as well as the Arctic Circle residency program in 2016 and 2023. Her international residency experience also includes programs in China, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, and Scotland.

Forgues has exhibited her work regionally, nationally, and internationally, including at Shanghai PhotoFairs (2018) and Galerie Sans Nom in Moncton, New Brunswick (2026). She has been a professor at Université de Moncton since 2000, where her photographic research continues to examine the relationship between space and place.
